LYIT’s Department of Nursing & Health Studies is delighted to announce the launch of two new Masters Programmes.

This is a very exciting advancement for the Department of Nursing and Health Studies at LYIT as it is the first two Masters programmes from the Department.

The first Masters programme is in the field of ‘Advanced Health and Social Care’ and the second programme has been developed in collaboration with the Donegal Alcohol Forum, and is a Master of Science (MSc)/Postgraduate (PG) Diploma in Therapeutic Interventions in Alcohol and other Drugs.

Since 2006, the Department has produced over 1200 graduates in the nursing, early childcare education and health and social care professions. The new Masters programmes afford past graduates, in their respective professions and practices, with an excellent opportunity to concentrate on increasing their knowledge and skill base, whilst remaining in the Northwest.

Both courses have been developed in direct response to an identified need in both the nursing and health and social care sector.

The programmes offer Level 9 progression routes for existing LYIT Level 8 degree graduates, and indeed other graduates working in the Northwest, who wish to pursue Postgraduate study.

The MSc in Therapeutic Interventions for Alcohol and Other Drugs has strong links with Donegal Alcohol Forum and this group has been part of the development of the curriculum also.

The purpose of both of these Masters programmes is to prepare nurses, healthcare, early childcare professionals to assume roles as specialist managers, leaders and change agents, within the healthcare, social care and early childcare settings.

Dr. Louise McBride, Head of Department of Nursing & Health Studies at LYIT commented, “These new Masters programmes have been developed to meet the advanced educational requirements of those working in the broad field of nursing, healthcare and early years, as well as in alcohol and other drugs related services.

“Graduates with this enhanced knowledge base and skill set will be ready to take on senior leadership roles upon completion of these programmes. Graduates will be able to apply this knowledge for the greater good of the public sector healthcare system.

“We are excited to have entered new territory, and to be in a position to offer two fantastic Level 9 programmes in the Northwest, is a ringing endorsement of the quality of programmes being offered at LYIT.”

For further information on these programmes and to secure your place on these programmes contact sheila.giblin@lyit.ie

The deadline for receipt of completed applications is Friday 15th of September.
