Odhran Mac Niallais was Man of the Match last night as Donegal New York won the New York county final.
After his club, Gaoth Dobhair, booked a place in the Donegal SFC semi-finals for the first time in 11 years, Mac Niallais will return home to add significantly to the Magheragallon arsenal.
Mac Niallais sparkled for Donegal NY in the final at Gaelic Park as they overcame Monaghan 2-13 to 1-8.
Leo McLoone started having made a trans-Atlantic dash after featuring for Naomh Conaill on Saturday night in their Donegal SFC win over Killybegs in Ardara.
Mac Niallais and McLoone will now go head-to-head in the Donegal semis after the draw paired Gaoth Dobhair and Naomh Conaill together.
Mac Niallais hit a pair of points in the first half, while Ross Wherity (St Eunan’s) and Peter Witherow (St Michael’s) were also on the mark. A goal from Peter Acheson had Donegal 1-7 to 0-5 ahead at half-time.
Daniel Jackson goaled for Monaghan, but Niall McFeeley’s goal helped Donegal to a comfortable win, with Mac Niallais keeping the scoreboard ticking in the second half.
St Michael’s men Stephen Doak and Antoin McFadden also started for Donegal NY, who are managed by Creeslough native James McFadden, with the squad also containing Shane Murrin of Killybegs and Peter McNelis from Ardara.
