HUNDREDS of competitors are expected to take part in the inaugural East Donegal Half Marathon in three week’s time, resulting in a much needed ‘out-of-season’ boost for the area.

The course will start at Raphoe Mart on Sunday, October 1, go through the spectacular Oakfield Park, and on to Convoy via Carnone crossroads, finishing in Oakfield.

Race organiser and course director, Eunan Quinn of Excel Sports, said it is his aim to hold a number of unique sporting events around the county over the next year.

“We are truly blessed to have Oakfield Park on our doorstep, and privileged to be able to use the venue for the first ever East Donegal Half Marathon,” he said.

“At the end of next month, Excel will also host the first Gaeltacht Adventure Race in Falcarragh. Our aim is to boost out-of-season visitor numbers to Donegal and, already, a number of hotels have received advance bookings from competitors.”

The €30 half marathon race fee includes free family admission to the park (two adults and three children) a bespoke medal and refreshments. This is a chipped event and has been officially registered with Athletics Ireland.

More details, including how to register, see the Excel Sports Facebook page. For further information, call Excel Sports directly on 0868782763 or email restwiseireland@gmail.com
