SOS issued to help clean up stunning historic site

An SOS has been issued to the public to help clean up one of Donegal’s most stunning natural historic monuments.

Led by archaeologist Paula Harvey, the community group, Ardara, Glenties and Portnoo (GAP) Heritage and History Group, were established in January 2016 with the aim of helping to preserve the future of Doon Fort in conjunction with Josie McHugh, the landowner.

This week Paula and her crew require your help to remove vegetation that threatens to undermine the walls.

With the weather forecast to be good today (Mon) and Tuesday 19th September 2017, Paula is requesting as many volunteers as possible to get in contact with her with an aim to get on to Doon Fort and remove some of the ivy.

Paula would like to see the ivy cleared in total by the end of September but the weather this month has just not played ball and the plan is currently running behind.

Meeting point tomorrow is at 10.30am whilst Tuesday is 2.00pm at The Dolmen Centre in Kilclooney.

Volunteers are asked to get in contact with Paula on 0879214206 if they are in a position to help out at all.

All volunteers should also bring secateurs, gloves, food and a drink. Boots should also be worn.
