Woman fined for begging in carpark

A woman who was caught begging in a carpark has been fined after appearing at Letterkenny District Court.

Argentina Rostas also pleaded guilty to two charges of theft from both an ALDI and a LIDL store in the Twin Towns.

Garda Inspector Sean Grant told the court that Ms Rostas stole a leg of lamb valued at €17.93 from LIDL on June 21st, 2015.

She also pleaded guilty to stealing ham and cheese from the local ALDI store on the same date.

Ms Rostas had been accompanied by her mother and she stole the items by placing them in the underside of a child’s pram.

The following day Ms Rostas was found by Gardai begging for money in the carpark of McElhinney’s Stores.

Solicitor for the accused woman, Patsy Galagher, said his client was a separated mother of four with very little means.

He added that Ms Rostas, of Chestnut Road, Ballybofey is now 27 and is trying to get her social welfare situation sorted.

Judge Paul Kelly fined Ms Rostas a total of €300.
