Merritt features again as Ireland hammer Netherlands at IFCPF World Championships

The Ireland Cerebral Palsy team booked a place in the 5th-6th place play-off at the IFCPF World Championships in Argentina via a 5-1 win over the Netherlands this evening.

Ballybofey United’s Oisin Merritt played all bar seven minutes of the game at Stadium Juan Gilberto Funes.

Dillon Sheridan netted four goals for Ireland with Aaron Tier also on target.

Ireland qualified out of their group on goal difference with Merritt played every minute of the last two games (a 7-0 win over Spain and a 5-0 loss to Ireland) having come in at half-time during a 3-3 draw with Canada.

A 5-0 loss to Russia at the weekend denied Ireland a semi-final berth, but the boys in green are now battling to finish as high as they can in the rankings.

Merritt was this year given the go-ahead to return to competitive sport after cheating death following a horrific accident three years ago.
