Declan Bonner to be unveiled as new Donegal manager on Friday evening

Declan Bonner is poised to be named as the new Donegal manager tomorrow evening.

A special meeting of the Donegal County Committee has been arranged for the Villa Rose Hotel in Ballybofey.

Clubs have not yet been notified of the agenda, but it is believed that just one item will be listed – the ratification of a new senior football team manager.

Bonner, Cathal Corey and Sean Paul Barrett were interviewed twice by the five-person selection committee.

Seamus McEnaney and Gary McDaid withdrew from the race.

Bonner, who had a previous spell as senior manager from 1997-2000, has been the front runner ever since Rory Gallagher announced his departure last month.

Now, white smoke appears set to billow in Donegal at last.

The selection committee – comprising County Chairman Sean Dunnion, Secretary Aideen Gillen, Treasurer Cieran Kelly as well as Paddy Carr and Damian Diver – must put a name before the clubs for ratification.

It is expected that delegates will rubber stamp Bonner as the new boss tomorrow evening.
