Donegal Culture Night a huge success

Donegal Culture Night was a huge success, with hundreds attending events across the county.

Across Donegal, 40 diverse events were held across 25 different venues that celebrate our unique local cultural identity.

This extraordinary night of cultural festivities has grown each year since its inception in 2006 with inspiring commitment from local authorities, cultural organisations and community collaborators throughout the country.

Last night marked Letterkenny’s ninth year of taking part in the annual all-island public event celebrating culture, creativity and the arts.

All types of culture – visual art, music, theatre, sculpture, spoken word, dance, moving image and more, were presented by the Donegal County Museum, Regional Cultural Centre, An Grianán Theatre, The Central Library and Donegal County Council Heritage Office – to name but a few.

The Letterkenny Town Park once again welcomed families for a brilliant Culture Night adventure.

The Inishowen Carnival Group presented The Ancient Ones, featuring figures from Ireland’s rich mythology such as Dagda the Forest Spirit, and The Morrigan Crow Spirit.

Artists Seamus MacManus & Siobhán McGranaghan, the SpaceScape team, presented an ethereal art installation inspired by Donegal’s highest peaks.

Children were given the chance to take part in art-making sessions in the special arts and crafts tents throughout the evening, making lanterns to guide their way as they explore the park.

Culture Night is brought to you by the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht and the Creative Ireland Programme in partnership with Donegal County Council (Cultural Services).
