Gardai say same gang could be behind spate of burglaries

Gardai say the same gang could be behind three high-profile burglaries in recent weeks.

Scenes of crime investigators are still at Bradley’s Centra and Post Office in Killygordon after it was broken into overnight.

It is the third premises to be hit in as many weeks after raids to both Kernan’s Centra in Newmills and the Eurospar store in Laghey.

Garda Crime Liaison Officer Sgt Paul Wallace said the possibility that the same culprits are behind all three raids is being investigated.

“It is something we are certainly looking at. The methods used to break into all three premises are similar,” he said.

Sgt Wallace appealed to businesses not to store large amounts of cash on their premises at weekends or overnight.

“Again I would ask all businesses to review their security arrangements and not to make easy for these gangs.

“If businesses are not sure about their security arrangements then they can liaise with Gardai,” he said.
