The LYIT School of Tourism in Killybegs has launched a new programme for adult learners in South West Donegal.

The School of Tourism Killybegs is pleased to announce the launch of the Certificate in Preparatory Studies at the Killybegs Campus. This programme is geared towards adult learners interested in beginning third level study.

Learners on this programme will have an opportunity to study Information Technology, Communication and Learning Skills and Maths and in the second semester, learners can choose from elective subjects including an Introduction to Computing, Introduction to Business Fundamentals, Tourism Studies or Food and Beverage Operations.

The programme is free-of-charge and is also available to Leaving Certificate Applied (LCA) students with 160 credits. This programme is the perfect fit for students unsure about the future and third level options.

The programme is based at the Killybegs campus and is a fantastic new addition to the suite of programmes available at the School of Tourism. To accommodate the growing demand for programmes that meet the needs of the region, the School of Tourism has introduced this ‘gateway’ programme, which supports adult learners transitioning into third level education.

The Certificate in Preparatory Studies has been available at the Letterkenny campus for a number of years and this programme has been the foundation for many student success stories.

Dr. Seán Duffy, Head of School of Tourism commented, “The Certificate in Preparatory Studies is an excellent addition to the programmes available at the School of Tourism. This programme is suitable for the unemployed, stay-at-home parents, retirees, adults wanting to return to education, in addition to LCA students.”

Dr. Seán Duffy

Seán further added, “This programme will cover a broad range of subjects and is a gateway or access programme into third level study. Learners will have the opportunity to focus on a number of elective subjects in semester two, which includes options to study Tourism Studies, Food and Beverage Operations, Business Fundamentals and an Introduction to Computing.

“The School of Tourism has recently expanded the number of programmes available for adult learners and we are delighted to launch a programme that will benefit so many people in South West Donegal. We will continue to deliver programmes that will enhance the region and we are excited about this new addition to the programme offerings at the School of Tourism.”

For further information on the Certificate in Preparatory Studies at the School of Tourism, Killybegs email sean.duffy@lyit.ie or call Anne on (074) 9186175. The deadline for receipt of applications is 12 noon Friday 6 October, 2017.
