Inquest of Buncrana murder victim told Garda investigation is live

An inquest into the death of a man who was shot dead in Co Donegal has been told the Garda investigation is live and continuing.

Andrew Allen was shot at close range by a gang in Buncrana in February, 2012.

An inquest into the death was held at Buncrana Courthouse was told that the investigation is ongoing.

Garda Inspector David Murphy told the coroner’s court that there was a recent arrest in the case.

“Our investigation is continuing. There was an arrest in April of this year. The investigation is live and continuing and we are applying to have an adjournment,” he said.

Mr Allen, who was originally from Derry, was killed when a gang shot through the windows of his rented home at Links View Park.

A car, believed to have been used by his killers, was found burnt-out a short distance away.

Mr Allen’s girlfriend, who was in the house at the time, escaped injury.

There have been a number of arrests in connection with the case but nobody has ever been charged.

Coroner Dr Denis McCauley said he was pleased to hear the investigation is still ongoing and adjourned the inquest until March 14th next.
