Donegal chef is the most versatile in Ireland – Neven Maguire

Celebrity chef Neven Maguire has called Donegal’s own cookery master Brian McDermott “the most versatile chef in Ireland.”

The TV star heaped praise on Inishowen’s No-Salt kitchen maestro by saying he could do anything.

Neven told journalist Jim Gallagher: “Brian is a great guy and he deserves his success.

“He’s a good lad and he is a great ambassador for food in the North West.

“I always call him the most versatile chef in Ireland who can do anything. He can do MC, he can do demonstrations, he can do interviews.

“He has so many strings to his bow. This year he did MC at the Taste of Dublin and he knocked the socks off it.

“He was brilliant. Not many people can manage chefs and talk to them and know when the chefs are quiet – not nervous – doing demonstrations.

“You have to be able to talk. Brian can do product food development so he is a man of many talents.

“But the most important thing is he is a really good guy and a great friend to me. I love him.”

Brian, who lives in Moville, is himself a regular on TV, appearing on RTE’s Afternoon Show with Maura and Daithi, and does demonstrations and radio shows across the country.

Neven was talking at the launch of his new RTE series, Neven’s Italian Food Trails, which begins next Thursday.

The glitzy launch was held in the headquarters of Dunnes Stores who are sponsoring the show with their Simply Better brand, of which Neven is brand ambassador.
