Updated reports from the Las Vegas mass shooting have raised the death toll to over 50 people, marking it as one of the deadliest mass shootings in US history.

A lone gunman opened fire on crowds at the Route 91 Harvest country music festival on Sunday night, unleashing mass fatalities. More than 50 people were killed and over 200 injured, according to police reports.

Police in Las Vegas say the shooter acted from a room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel and casino on the Las Vegas strip. Over 40,000 people had been attending the open-air concert when the shooter fired multiple rounds at concertgoers.

The suspected gunman was killed by police in the hotel. He has been named locally as a 64-year-old Nevada resident. Police have also located a female who was named as a person of interest.

It is reported that two off-duty LVMPD officers were among the dead while two on-duty LVMPD officers were injured during the shooting.

Blood donations are being collected for victims. Sections of the famous hotel-lined Las Vegas were closed during the night as the public were told to remain in their rooms.

An LVMPD statement said: “Our condolences go out to the families who lost loved ones tonight. Thoughts and prayers are with all of those affected by this tragedy.”

President Donald Trump has tweeted his sympathies to the victims, saying: “My warmest condolences and sympathies to the victims and families of the terrible Las Vegas shooting. God bless you!”

The Irish Consulate in San Francisco have advised citizens to follow police instructions.
