Listen: Delight for Milford’s Man of the Match, Gary Merritt

Gary Merritt recalled the hurt of 2016 as he turned in a Man of the Match performance in Milford’s Intermediate final win over St Naul’s.

Merritt scored a point and was heavily involved in a 2-11 to 0-12 win that brings the Cathal McLaughlin Cup back to Milford after a 25-year absence and follows last year’s defeat to Burt.

“Ah, it’s unbelievable,” said Merritt.

“After the hurt of last year it’s great to be back. That was probably the worst dressing room I was in and the worst feeling last year.”

Merritt has just returned from injury to spur Milford to glory.

He said: “It was fantastic to be involved.

“I was feeling it in the last ten minutes, but thank God we got over the line.”
