Donegal boxers set for Ulster Senior and Ulster Novice Championships

A number of Donegal boxers are set to take part in the Ulster Senior Open and Ulster Novice Championships in Belfast this week.

Action begins at the Dockworkers Club tonight.

In Senior quarter-finals at 60kgs, Letterkenny’s Cillin Boyce takes on Teo Alin of Cookstown while Jonathan Casey from the Illies Golden Gloves meets Derek Kerr from Glengormley.

Tomorrow night, Raphoe’s Dennis Lafferty takes on Ben Nelson (Townland) in a semi-final at 56kgs and Edward Lynch of Ballyshannon is awaiting an opponent from tonight’s bouts for a Novice quarter-final at 75kgs tomorrow.

Thursday night will see Cathal Brown (Illies) and Letterkenny duo Oran Shields and Michael McConigley take to the ring in Senior semis, Brown and Shields both at 81kgs with McConigley in at 91kgs.

Also on Thursday night, three Donegal females are in finals.

Ciara Anderson of Twin Towns meets Cathleigh McGee from Loughshore in the female open final at 51kgs.

Illies GG’s Caroline Gallagher takes on Laura Smith from Lisburn in a Female Novice final at 69kgs and Ballyshannon’s Danika Doherty faces Churchland’s Roberta Gaile at 64kgs.

On Friday night, Danny Boyle (Dungloe) in a Senior 81kgs, Niall McConigley (Ballyshannon) at Novice 91kgs and Matthew McCole (Dungloe) at Senior 64kgs, are already guaranteed finals.
