Gardai a hunting a man after a young woman was viciously attacked in Letterkenny at the weekend.

Shanan Reid McDaid was set up and violently assaulted close to Market Square at around 3am on Sunday morning last.

The man shouted at the woman and called her a ‘slut’ and a ‘bitch’ as he assaulted her.

He then punched hurt violently a number of times in the face before escaping.

Shanan was forced to attend Letterkenny University Hospital where she was treated for extensive facial injuries.

The young woman took to Facebook to plead with anyone who may know the identity of her attacker.

She said “Could anyone that was out on Saturday night, the 14th of October, give this a read please. Between 2:59 and 3:10 a man followed me up past the brewery and outside cara house attacked me. The man was around 5’9 and roughly between the age of 30 and 40.

“I’m not 100% sure of what he looked like but he seemed to be wearing what I made out to be a navy/dark coloured blazer with a white/light coloured shirt underneath. I don’t think the blazer was part of a suit as I think he wore dark denim jeans. I believe his hair was a light brown/dirty blonde colour.

“The man only spoke two words to me (slut, bitch), but his accent sounded as if he was from Donegal/Northern Ireland. This happened in front of Cara house, to the right side of the building when looking up from the Brewery.

“As of now, there are no cameras that recorded the incident or got a clear view of the man’s face but there is no footage of the man walking back down past the square/brewery. The man may have headed towards the cathedral and got taxi or he may have went down church lane and continued about his business down the street.

“Really he could have gone any direction north of Cara house. If anyone knows anyone who is a taxi driver and wouldn’t mind asking the question if they heard, saw or collected anyone between 3 and 3:20am that night around the Cathedral.

“If anyone saw a man of this description around the street, around the Cathedral, just anywhere in town it would be really really appreciated if you could contact me through this or if you have my number, or the guards on 0749167100.”
