Storm Ophelia has now claimed three lives in Ireland as a man has been fatally injured after a car was struck by a tree in Co Louth.

And with the storm expected to hit Donegal between 5 and 8pm, people are being warned to stay indoors.

Gardai say a recovery operation is underway at the scene at Ravensdale, Dundalk after the alarm was raised at 2.45pm.

And a man in his 30s has died after being seriously injured with a chainsaw while clearing a fallen tree in Co Tipperary.

The man was injured at Ballybrado, Cahir around 12.30pm today.

A woman in her 50s lost her life just outside Aglish in Co Waterford when a falling tree landed on a car carrying two passengers at around 11.40am.

The National Hurricane Center in the US said Galway, Mayo, Sligo and Donegal will be worst hit – as Met Eireann confirm the times the Irish public should stay indoors when winds will reach their maximum strength.
