Disgust as thieves rob collection box at church

There was outrage at a Donegal church yesterday after parishioners were told their church had been targeted by thieves.

St Patrick’s Church at Crossroads, Killygordan was broken into yesterday and money was taken from the candelabrum.

News of the brazen robbery was relayed to shocked pensioners by Parish Priest Fr Patsy Arkinson at evening mass last night.

Fr Arkinson said there had been other robberies in the area too.

It is not known yet how much was taken in the robbery but it is understood that there have been other robberies at the church in recent weeks.

One parishioner said he simply had to ask himself how desperate those who took the money for the church were.

“To steal from anybody is bad enough but to steal from the house of God is the lowest of the low.

“Whoever did this is obviously desperately in need of money for whatever reason.

“Nobody was hurt but it’s such a shame that they had to steal from the church,” said the man.
