A Garda car was set alight during an attack at Carndonagh Garda station overnight.

It is understood that an accelerant was used to set alight the patrol car just after 9.30pm.

No arrests have yet been made and a motive for the attack has yet to be confirmed.

Nobody was hurt during the incident which took place at the station which is located just outside the town.

Local county councillor Albert Doherty said it was a callous act.

“It is a dastardly act and something we don’t want connected to the town.

“The night itself, although it was Halloween, was relatively quiet apart from this incident.

“Somebody somewhere must have seen something and I would appeal to anybody with information to contact the Gardai,” he said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Carndonagh Garda Station on 074 937 4109.
