Residents asked to report faulty street lights as evenings get darker

Donegal residents have been asked to report any faulty street lights to Airtricity as the evenings get darker.

Cllr Patrick McGowan says “now that the dark evenings have started, street lighting is an important issue both in towns and in rural areas.”

You can report any faulty streetlights by calling Airticity on 1850 37 27 72. You can also ask for a reference number so as you can follow up the case if there is a delay with the repair.

“In rural areas poles and lights might not have a pole number,” Cllr McGowan says, “so it’s very important to give an accurate description of the loction, Eircode, nearest known landmark, and your phone number in case they have difficulty finding the light. Ten working days is the normal waiting time.”

With the clocks rolling back last weekend, the Donegal Road Safety Working Group have also appealed for people to be safe and be seen.

Brian O’Donnell, Road Safety Officer says: “As the evenings get darker, we need to stress how important it is to Be Safe and Be Seen on the road.”

Brian asks that motorists ensure their lights are functioning properly, wear your seatbelt, obey the speed limit, keep off our mobile phone while driving, and do not drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Moreover, pedestrians and cyclists should ensure that they are wearing reflective clothing.
