Council release list of upcoming temporary road closures and diversion routes

Donegal County Council has released details of upcoming road closures, road re-opening dates, and diversion routes.

The details of these temporary road closures have been made available on the Donegal County Council website by John G. McLaughlin, Director of Service, Roads and Transportation.

Gleneely/ Moville
The regional road (R238) Gleneely/Moville from its junction with Gleneely Crossroads to its junction with the Drumlee Road (L13211) at Gleneely with be closed between Wednesday 1st of November to Tuesday 7th November (inclusive) from 7am to 7pm. This will allow Donegal County Council to carry out essential repair work.

Alternative route: Gleneely – Carndonagh –Quigleys Point – Moville – Gleneely (R244 – R240 – R238)

 

Illies / Glentogher
The L-1731 Meenaharnish Road between the ‘3 bridges’ and its junction at R240 (Carndonagh to Quigleys Point Road) has been closed since September 1st to facilitate the laying of a new water main. It will reopen on the 16th February 2018. The road is closed between 8.00am to 8.00pm Monday to Friday.

Alternative route: L1731, L1711, R238, R244, R238, R240, L1731. (Kinnego Crossroads, Shandrum Crossroads, Drumfries Junction, Carndonagh Roundabout, Cross Quigleys Point).

 

Gleneely /Redcastle
The Gleneely/Redcastle Road (L1411) from its junction with Gleneely Crossroads to its junction with the Moneydarragh Road (L6141) at Moneydarragh Gleneely will be closed from the 8th of November until the 14th of November (inclusive) between 7am and 7pm. This is to facilitate essential repair work.

Alternative route: Gleneely – Moville – Redcastle – Moneydarragh (R238 – L1411)

 

Carndonagh / Buncrana
The Carndonagh/Buncrana Regional Road (R244) from its Junction at Bayview Housing Estate, Mollys Brea to its Junction with the Glenmakee Road (L5561) will be closed from Friday 3rd November until Friday 10th November 2017 (inclusive) from 7.00am to 7.00pm for essential repair work.

Alternative route: Carndonagh – Clonmany – Buncrana (R238)

 

Malintown to Malinhead
The Malintown to Malinhead Road (R242) will be closed from its junction with the Glacknabrad Road (L5191) to the Meeting House Road junction (L5171) for essential repair work. It will be closed from Thursday, 9th November 2017 to Friday 24th November 2017 (inclusive) from 7.00am to 7.00pm.

Alternative routes: Malintown – Bree X Roads via Black Mountain – Malinhead. (R242 – L1081 – L1041 – L1031 – R242).

 

Glencolmcille R263
The R263 – Main street from the Glenhead Tavern to Cashel National School will be closed from the 25th of September until the 17th of November from 8am to 6pm daily. The road will be open to two-way traffic from 6pm on Friday evenings to 8am on Monday mornings. This is to allow the faciliation of works in connection with the Glencolmcille Sewerage Scheme.

Diversions: Coaches/HGV traffic diversion via LP1055 Meenaveen – Malinmore Road. Local traffic diversion via LS5055 Straid or Glebe Road – Gannew.

 

Ballybofey Main Street
Initial Notice: Ballybofey Main St. N15 will be closed from its junction with Steeple View L3154-1 at Lidl to its junction with Chestnut Road L3074-2 from 2pm to 6pm on Sunday the 19th of November to facilitate the unveiling of Christmas window at McElhinneys stores.

Alternative Routes: Northbound Traffic via Steeple View L3154-1, Harps Way L3074-3, Chestnut Road L3074-2. Southbound Traffic via Chestnut Rd L3074-2, Navenny St L3074-1, Trusk Rd L3054-1, Steeple View L3154-1.

Donegal County Council says: “Persons wishing to object to the closures should submit objections in writing to the Roads Section, Donegal County Council, County House, Lifford before 4pm on Monday, 6th November 2017. In the event of objections to the granting of proposed road closure, the Council reserves the right to make the details of the objections available to the licence applicant where it considers it necessary in order to fully consider the validity of any of the objections received.”

 

Glengad to Malintown Road
The Glengad to Malintown Road (L1071) will be closed from its junction at Laffertys Shop to its junction with the Ballynahowna Road (L10711) at Ballynahowna Bridge from Tuesday 7th November to Tuesday 14th November 2017 inclusive from 7am to 7pm to carry out essential repair work.

Alternative routes: Glengad – Culdaff – Malintown (L1071 – L1111 – L1121 – R238 – R243 – L1081)

 

Industrial Road, Killybegs
Industrial Road, Killybegs will be closed for approximately 10 minutes on Tuesday, 7th November 2017 at 2.00pm. The road will be temporarily closed to complete rock breaking and site clearance works.

Alternative Route: The westbound diversion for general traffic shall be via the Roisin Road (LP 1285) and the Fintra Road. HGV’s shall be diverted at Havan Pharmacy onto the Conlin Rd LP1275 and then onto the Fintra road. All east bound traffic will be diverted towards the town at the Glenlee roundabout.
