A man has been arrested after a hostage situation in St Johnston this afternoon.

The man took his mother hostage at the family home on the town’s Main Street.

The man was armed with a screwdriver and threatened the woman.

The specialist Garda Regional Support Unit was called to the scene of the situation this afternoon.

The house was surrounded and a number of roads were also closed off into the village.

The man was eventually convinced to leave the house and was arrested by Gardai and taken to Letterkenny Garda station for questioning.

Nobody was injured in the incident.
