Anger as masked man breaks into Letterkenny childcare facility

A masked man spent two hours in a Letterkenny childcare facility after breaking into the building last night and made off with a camera.

The incident has been captured on CCTV at the Letterkenny Community Development Project (CDP) Childcare facility at Glendale Manor.

At around 3am, a man was seen breaking a window and entering the premises and was in for a period of two hours.

“It was a low act, breaking into a community facility like this,” said Sinn Féin Councillor Gerry McMonagle.

“It’s shocking. Here, we have a community-based childcare facility running to provide affordable childcare in an urban area. It is not for profit and is only to provide a service in the area.

“This man had a false face on to hide his identity. He was in and out of the different rooms and stayed in for a substantial length of time and even the alarm going off didn’t seem to scare him.

“He was searching all around the building.

“The only thing that we can tell is missing is a camera that staff use to record events and outings.”

Staff arrived this morning to discover the break-in, but the facility opened as normal today.

Councillor McMonagle said: “The staff take great pride in the place and it is to their credit that they do that.”
