Castle Grove Country House Hotel has been announced as one of the newest additions to the Blue Book collection for 2018.
Ireland’s Blue Book is a romantic collection of the finest Irish country house hotels, historic manor houses, castles and restaurants.
Just three venues in Donegal are part of the association, while Castle Grove, located outside Letterkenny, is the latest of the beautiful and unique properties to join.
Eimear Thomas of Castle Grove said this is a special day for the family, particularly her mother Mary T Sweeney: “As a beacon of excellence, we have always aspired to be included in the Blue Book of Ireland, and we are delighted to have been accepted to the membership today.
“Castle Grove being part of the prestigious Blue Book has been long term ambition of Mary T. She is delighted with this achievement and considers it a pinnacle of success of her career,” Eimear said.

The Blue Book describes Castle Grove as ‘a breath-taking country house hotel offering the best of Irish hospitality as well as being rich in history.’
The directory shares intriguing elements of the building’s story and history up to the modern day:
“The current house was built in 1695 by the Grove family after the original house was burned down during the siege of 1690. Castle Grove has marked its place in the history books as hosts of the introduction of Irish historical political leader Daniel O’Connell, which led to him becoming MP.
“In 1989 The Sweeney family transformed Castle Grove into the luxury 4-star country-house hotel it is today, while being careful to maintain the character of the original house and grounds.
“It is the ideal location to explore the lush countryside and stunning scenery that Donegal has to offer, and is an ideal starting point for exploring the Wild Atlantic Way.

Castle Grove will soon join the select 52 establishments of the Blue Book. Other Donegal venues in the collection include Rathmullan House and Coolmore Manor House in Rossnowlagh.
