Jason Quigley to make return in early 2018: “I promise it will be worth it”

Jason Quigley has vowed to bounce back ‘stronger and hungrier than ever before’.

The unbeaten Ballybofey middleweight (13-0) has not boxed since defeating Glen Tapia in March to win the NABF middleweight title at Fantasy Springs.

In the second round of that bout, Quigley suffered what medics in Los Angeles have described as a ‘one in ten million’ injury.

Quigley underwent surgery on his right hand at the Cedar Sinai Hospital and remains out of action.

Plans had been in place to have the Golden Boy Promotions prospect – who has recently moved into the top ten in the World rankings – on a card in New York at the start of December.

But his comeback has been shelved until the new year.

“Despite wanting to be back in the ring before the end of 2017 I have made the right decision not to – I’m giving my hand the extra time it needs to strengthen!” Quigley said in a post on Instagram.

He said: “We are gearing towards early new year for my return, & I promise it will be worth it, I’m coming back stronger & hungrier than ever before.”

A torn tendon, a broken bone, surgery, pins, numerous casts and months not been allowed to punch… but it was the mental side of it that got me the most! There is nothing more frustrating than having to sit back and do nothing when all you want to do is keep moving forward!! Despite wanting to be back in the ring before the end of 2017 I have made the right decision not to – I’m giving my hand the extra time it needs to strengthen! We are gearing towards early new year for my return, & I promise it will be worth it, I’m coming back stronger & hungrier than ever before… @goldenboyboxing
