An incident in Letterkenny this morning which involved armed gardai has been confirmed as a response to a hoax call.

Officers, supported by members of the Armed Support Unit, were dispatched to a house at Oaklands Park at Gortlee, Letterkenny this morning (Tuesday).

It has now emerged that the operation was established after false reports were made of a suspicious device or firearm. No arrests were made in the call-out.

A garda spokesperson has confirmed tonight that a further investigation is being pursued in the case. Gardai are now seeking to determine who was behind the call and responsible for wasting officers’ time.
