The President and CEO of the Worcester Chamber of Commerce, Tim Murray, hosted an Ireland North West delegation of civic leaders, officials and educational institutions in the Massachusetts city for a day of meetings and networking events.

The schedule included a working lunch with the Worcester Chamber of Commerce and engagement between Worcester State University and the University of Ulster, North West Regional College and Letterkenny IT about possible future partnerships.

Jointly led by Leas-Chathaoirleach of Donegal County Council Cllr Noel Jordan and the Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr Maolíosa McHugh, the delegation were showcasing the North West to the city of Worcester as a prime location for business and to look at new opportunities for local companies wishing to expand their trade links in the US market.

Speaking as he welcomed the delegation, which also included Donegal County Council and Derry and Strabane District Council Chief Executives Seamus Neely and John Kelpie, Mr Murray said “the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce is pleased to host the delegation from Ireland North West”.

He added “over the past several years, we have built meaningful economic development and academic partnerships that have created opportunities to expand trade and seed future growth in new innovative sectors of the economy.”

The delegation took an early morning flight to Boston after spending the first day of their trip exploring trade opportunities in Philadelphia before travelling to Worcester from Boston airport.

On Tuesday evening, the group travelled to Central Boston where they held a meeting with Irish Consul General Fionnuala Quinnlan at her Boylston Street offices and linked up with the 15 companies from the Donegal and Derry / Strabane Council areas who will take part in a series of showcase and networking events culminating in the Golden Bridges Conference in the Seaport Hotel and World Trade Centre this Friday.

Among the companies from Donegal in the Ireland North West delegation are Aniar Cumhacht Teoranta; Algaran Teoranta; O’Donnell’s Bakery; Silver Birch Gallery; Meastoiri Domhanda Teo; Eilis Galbraith and DS Environmental Services Ltd.

While AE Global (formerly Allpipe Engineering); The Clinical Translational Research and Innovation Centre (C-TRIC); ActionSense Ltd; Makematic; NeuroConcise; O’Neill’s Irish International Sports Co Ltd; Troll Inc; and Type 40 Creative from Derry & Strabane are also taking part.
