LyIT students to get first ever legal advice centre

A new Free Legal Advice Centre has been launched at the Letterkenny Institute of Technology.

The FLAC information service is run by students, for students.

For many, third level education is the first time out of the family home, and college students encounter issues we have never faced before.

For others, attending LyIT simply means new work or home environments which create situations where we are unsure of our entitlements.

Several attempts have been made in previous years by other students in the college, but the founding students are Brian McElhinney, President, Margaret Ridge, Secretary and Nathaniel Mc Grory, Treasurer.

The first themed clinic, in which the group will be providing information to students about Landlord and Tenant rights, on the evening of Wednesday, November 29th.

A spokesperson said “Our aim at FLAC LyIT is to arm students with the information and knowledge to protect themselves, enforce their rights, and make the most of the college experience.

“Our law students, mentored and supervised by legal practitioners, will be running clinics on a variety of topics including employment law and landlord and tenant rights.

“If you have a legal question, we will be on hand to give you information about the options out there.”

For further information on this service check out their Facebook Page on www.facebook.com/flaclyit/.
