‘Polar low’ to bring freezing temperatures and some snow from tomorrow

Donegal is set to experience its first real major cold snap of the winter as Met Eireann forecasts the arrival of a ‘polar low.’

The weather front will bring a sharp drop in temperatures tomorrow, with snow and ice also forecast for parts of the country.

Donegal may escape a lot of rain forecast for parts of the country but as it clears during the day, temperatures will plunge to just five or six degrees.

On Wednesday night, things will continue to get colder, with Met Eireann predicting that temperatures will touch freezing in parts of the country.

After that, an area of low pressure, known as a ‘polar low’ will approach the north of the country.

It will bring with it showers, which will be heavy and which will fall as snow on higher ground.

Thursday is also set to be cold, with more wintry showers expected on higher ground.

Thursday night is forecast to be even colder, with minus temperatures leading to ice on untreated surfaces.
