Sam and Chloe Magee’s bid for glory at the Scottish Open in Glasgow came to an end this evening.

The Magees lost out 21-19 21-14 to Jacco Arends and Selena Piek from Netherlands, ending their hopes of booking a semi-final slot.

This morning, the Raphoe siblings defeated Matthew Clare and Victoria Williams 21-16 21-15.

Yesterday, they topped European medallists Alexander Dunn and Eleanor O’Donnell form Scotland 21-15 21-14.

Their last 16 clash might well have been against familiar opponents, but yesterday Rachael Darragh – their niece – and Paul Reynolds – narrowly lost to Clare and Williams after a gripping three-game marathon that ended 21-23 21-17 21-17.

In the women’s doubles, Darragh and Sara Boyle bow out following a 21-12 21-14  loss to Norway’s Julie Dawall Jakobsen and Ditte Soby. Darragh and Boyle yesterday defeated Jessica Hopton and Lizzie Tolman 21-17 24-22

In the women’s singles, Darragh was beaten by Chloe Birch of England 21-14 23-21, while Joshua Magee yesterday lost out to Jacob Nilsson from Finland 21-10 21-17.

Earlier today, Joshua and Sam Magee lost out 21-16 21-18 to England’s Ben Lane and Sean Vendu in the men’s doubles
