There will be no changes to the make-up of the senior Donegal All-County Football Leagues for 2018.
At last night’s county committee meeting in Ballybofey, delegates discussed a range of motions pertaining to the structure of the Leagues.
When all was said and done, agreement was reached to keep the senior league structure in their current guise. A decision will be made on the reserve Leagues in early 2018.
The decision will be welcomed by the Club Players Association, who had urged delegates to retain the current format.
There were 256 responses to the CPA by members in Donegal prior to last night’s meeting.
Members wanted the existing structure to stay and were vehemently opposed to the addition of a third competition to the calendar to fill the gaps./
“The majority of our members clearly don’t want a third competition. They simply want the existing competitions to be run correctly,” the CPA said at the weekend.
The CPA asked that a schedule for League and Championship matches is confirmed at the start of March and the Board give guarantees that it won’t change.
They also ask that there are regular matches for club players from March to August and that the Championships start in August.
The CPA added: “Barring involvement beyond the All-Ireland quarter-finals, May-July is the only period that county players will be unavailable for club games, in accordance with the provisions of the official guide.”
At the County Regulations meeting the decision was taken to keep the senior league structures as per 2017. The reserves leagues are deferred until the first meeting of County Committee in 2018
