Donegal boxers Matthew McCole and Cathal Browne are in Dublin tonight bidding for glory in the National Senior Championship finals.

Dungloe southpaw McCole (above, right) faces Dubliner Kenneth Doyle in the light-welterweight decider with Illies Golden Gloves light-heavyweight Browne up against Ballinacarrow’s Jason Clancy

McCole last week defeated Ryan O’Rourke from St Michael’s in his semi-final. McCole has been on a mission for these Championships for some time now.

On his way he entered the Ulster Elites, but lost out to the seasoned Sean McComb. He did win an Ulster Senior crown in Belfast when defeated Colm Trengove, the scintillating McCole standing out with a fine performance.

In Dublin, he has already beaten Karl O’Connor and O’Rourke to reach the final.

Doyle, for his part, overcame Michael Kinsella with ease in his semi last Saturday.

Browne also won an Ulster Senior crown in October as he impressively won against Noel Donnelly.

Last weekend, Browne was too hot to handle for Faolin Rahill of DCU Athletic in the semi. In a quarter-final, Browne overcame Davit Tsotsoria, also of the Illies stable.

Last weekend, there was semi-final disappointment for Twin Towns’ flyweight Ciara Anderson, who bowed out after a 5-0 defeat to Lois Walsh from Castlebar.
