The latest event in the Inishowen Methodist Churches’ fundraising campaign, to raise money for the rebuilding of their community hall in Moville, takes place this weekend when their inaugural Christmas Tree Festival and Live Nativity is held in the Glacknadrummond Methodist Church near Culdaff.
The festival commences on Friday morning at 10.00 when local primary schools and crèches take part in a Christmas musical programme.
Friday’s visiting hours are between 10.00 and 14.00 and then later from 18.00 to 21.00.
On Saturday, the exhibit’s eye-catching displays and live crib are accessible from 10.00 to 21.00, and on Sunday it runs from 14.00 to 17.00. All through the weekend, local singers, choirs and musicians will be performing for those visiting.
The festival comes to a close with a carol service at 19.30. Although there is no entrance charge, the church is encouraging people to donate generously.
Schools, churches, businesses, community groups and individuals have contributed trees to the Festival.
Carolyn McKinney, a member of the fundraising committee said the response from the community has been fantastic.
“Local churches, businesses, community groups and schools have been really enthusiastic with their support and input. I would encourage people to come along to see the design and artistry on display—the effort and time put in by everyone has been overwhelming.’
The fundraising event is the latest this year as the church looks to rebuild the hall.
Methodist minister for Inishowen, Rev Alison Gallagher, said that although they had raised over 150,000€ to date, their target was 350,000€.
She continued: ‘Our vision is to rebuild a much needed new Methodist community hall that serves the whole community as well as the church. Situated in the centre of Moville, the hall is central to the town’s heartbeat and ideally placed to contribute to an inclusive community.’
As the church is located on the L5871 just off the Gleneely to Culdaff road (R238), festival organisers have asked people to drive with care due to the narrow roads accessing the church.
