The Department of Education is to provide funding for additional accommodation and ancillary works at Dunkineely National School.
Deputy Pat the Cope Gallagher Leas Cheann Comhairle has welcomed the approval.
“I have been working closely with the School community in getting the necessary approval from the Department of Education and, I welcome the sanctioning of the necessary grant today.
Pat the Cope added the works to be carried out will include the provision of two Resource rooms, 1 UA toilet, the removal of prefab building and other necessary ancillary works on the school site.
He said “I am keenly aware that the school have been actively working in seeking the necessary approval for some time and I am delighted to be in a position to confirm the necessary grant approvals today. The school authorities will now have to obtain planning permission for the extension and upon receipt of the planning a contractor will have to be appointed to carry out the necessary works.
Pat the Cope stated the additional room capacity and other improvements will be of huge benefit to the school and I am anticipating that no further delays will occur in bringing this project to completion.
“I wish to compliment the school authorities in persisting in getting this project delivered – it is essential that we continue to invest in our schools in order to maintain the highest standards in our school building stock,” concluded Pat the Cope.
