Gardai appeal to shoppers not to leave Christmas shopping in cars

Donegal Gardai have warned shoppers not to leave Chrismas presents in their cars in the run-up to the festive season.

Local crime prevention officer, Sgt Paul Wallace said thieves are watching shopping centre carparks in a bid to steal goods from unsuspecting shoppers.

He pleaded with people not to fill up their cars and then leave them unattended.

He said “This is a very busy time of year and people are stocking up on Christmas presents and all kinds of stuff.

“A car filled with goods can be an easy target for thieves and this is happening a lot across the country.

“We would ask people to shop wisely. If they are going from shop to shop and buying goods, then they should ask the shop assistants if they can leave them behind the counter.

“They can return later on, collect all their goods and then put them into the car and head home.”
