Snow expected as temperatures to plummet to -4

Sleet and snow showers are expected to strike Donegal tomorrow as temperatures are set to drop to -4.

Donegal, Mayo, and Leitrim are at the highest risk of snow, with the north-west expected to bear the brunt of Storm Caroline.

Met Éireann says that tomorrow will also have sunny spells, however showers will become more frequent and wintry as the day goes on – particularly over high ground. The fresh to strong northwest winds will also make it feel extra cold.

Met Éireann’s Status Yellow warning remains in place for Donegal today, with southerly winds of 50 to 65km/h expected, with gusts of 90 to 110km/h along coastal areas.

The warning will be lifted at 11pm tonight as there will be a small calm before Storm Caroline arrives on the Irish coast.

At 3am the Status Yellow will be revalidated, with severe winds expected over Ireland. Gusts of up to 100 to 110 km/h are forecast for tomorrow, with the strongest winds in coastal areas and over high ground. The warning will be lifted at 8pm tomorrow night.
