There have been numerous crashes across the county this morning with the first snowfall of the winter with Gardai appealing to drivers to slow down.

There have been collisions in Drumkeen, Letterkenny, Donegal Town and Buncrana as people are urged to take extra care.

Head of the Garda Traffic Corps in Donegal, Inspector Michael Harrison, urged people attending Christmas parties to make arrangements in case they cannot get home.

“People should slow right down and not to take any chances. Again they should always wear seatbelts.

“This is the first snow of the winter and people should remember that the roads will be slippy and braking will take that bit longer.”

He is advising people not to take chances as more snow is forecast this evening.

Although Met Eireann say the freezing weather may ease a little tomorrow, more snow is forecast for the country on Sunday.
