Roads Update: Icy roads continue to cause disruption

All Donegal County Council gritters have been out since 5:30am in light of the Met Éireann Status Orange Snow and Ice Warning for the county. The warning is valid until 6pm this evening.

Donegal County Council is asking all road users to exercise extreme caution on the roads today and to assume that no road is ice-free.

Similarly, the AA is also asking people to take care as sleet and slush are rendering driving conditions perilous along certain routes.

“Allow extra time to defrost your car before your journey and bear in mind that stopping distances are up to 10 times longer in icy conditions,” an AA spokesperson says.

Please take extra care on the following roads:

The N14 Letterkenny/Lifford Rd at Ballinaleckey.

The Termon/Gweedore Rd (R251), known as the Back of Errigal.

The Ramelton/Milford Rd (R245).

Conditions have improved on the N15 Ballybofey/Donegal Rd at McGrory’s Brae and also through Barnsmore Gap.

You can keep up to date on gritting information by following Donegal County Council on Twitter @RoadsDCC or @DonegalCouncil or on their Donegal County Council Facebook page.

You can also access information on gritting routes, weather forecasts and sand and grit locations via Donegal County Council’s interactive map by clicking here.

If you come across a dangerous stretch of road, please let us know at info@donegaldaily.com or send us a message on Facebook.
