The excitement for the new Star Wars movie release is a force to be reckoned with as fans count down the days until they see the next episode on the big screen.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is out this Friday and fans in Donegal will be keeping a close eye on Ahch-To scenes to spot some familiar sights.
The Star Wars crew descended on Malin Head in Co. Donegal last May to use the jarring landscape as a backdrop to the blockbuster. Skellig Michael in Kerry and other spots along the Wild Atlantic Way will also feature in the film, and it is yet to be revealed how much screentime Donegal will get.
One local photographer caught an all-encompassing image of the big budget production camp at Malin Head on May 16th, 2016. Strabane photographer Gareth Wray chose to keep the photo for release until this week, making it all the more exciting for fans.

The incredible photo contains many details, which Wray himself describes in an informative caption:
“If you look onto the rocky outcrop you can see the “Millennium Falcon” spaceship set. To the right you can see all the tents and storage for the gear used for filming. On the foreground is scaffolding and cables which were used to suspend the actors to the side of this cliff for an amazing action scene!”, Wray wrote.
The photographer often captures impressive views of Donegal, and shared his delight that the Star Wars filmmakers also saw the potential of the landscape:
“I really can’t wait to see this movie in the cinema and it is such a claim to fame for County Donegal and all Ireland for that matter! In my humble opinion, JJ Abram couldn’t have sourced a better filming location for his newest Star Wars Movies!,” Wray said.
