Newly elected County Board Chairman Mick McGrath launched CLG Ghaoth Dobhair’s new coaching and wellness scheme in the Gaoth Dobhair clubhouse on Monday evening.

Scéim Oiliúna agus Folláine Ghaoth Dobhair is an innovative scheme which will provide high quality coaching in six national schools in the club catchment area and will offer a series of workshops on health and wellness.

Club coach Seán Neansaí Ó Gallachóir will oversee the coaching in the schools and local GP Dr Tony Delap and his team will lead out on the health and wellness workshops and seminars.

Club Chairperson Aodh Máirtín Ó Fearraigh said the whole community will benefit from this innovative scheme.

“We as a club would have put a big emphasis on health and wellbeing in recent times, but we’re hoping to take that to a new level now.

“We are delighted to have Dr Tony Delap and his medical team on board in delivering seminars and workshops on issues that affect people in our community. Emphasis will be put on issues such as substance abuse, diet and nutrition, bullying and healthy living”

Local business Siopa Mhicí have signed a three year contract with CLG Ghaoth Dobhair as main sponsors of Scéim Oiliúna agus Folláine Ghaoth Dobhair.

Speaking at the launch on Monday evening, County Board Chairman Mick McGrath paid tribute to the Gaoth Dobhair club on their work in promoting health and wellbeing in the club.

“It’s important that there is a connection with the club and the local schools and I commend the Gaoth Dobhair club on their initiative.

“The other aspect of this innovative scheme is to be commended. It’s good to see clubs take a lead role in the community in providing information and assistance to parents, guardians and the public on matters such as alcohol abuse, drugs, obesity and healthy lifestyles. This scheme is a great template for other clubs”
