Anthony Gorman is never afraid to express his opinion on the local soccer scene – and the Letterkenny Rovers man has some interesting views on youth football in Donegal.

Gorman’s Rovers defeated Kilmacrennan Celtic 7-0 on Saturday in the Donegal Youth League.

With Finn Harps and Derry City now having teams at Under-17 and Under-19 levels, the League appears weaker than it had been.

“The top end player is at Finn Harps or Derry and the Youth League is weaker, but a lot of these players wouldn’t look out of place at a higher level,” Gorman said.

“The Youth League isn’t as strong as it was a few years ago, but in saying that it’s maybe a wee bit more competitive now.

“There isn’t a lot in it ability-wise. You work for every victory in this League.”
