There’ll be no shortage of festive drinks in Co Donegal after a Judge granted another TWO late drinks licenses for Christmas night.
Gardai had previously objected to any late licenses for the county since 2012 because of unsocial behaviour.
However, last week a Judge saved Christmas for hundreds of revelers after he granted a premises what was then the only drinks license for Donegal for Christmas night.
The Limelight Nightclub in Glenties had been refused the license to open at a minute past midnight in the early hours of December 26th.
It followed objections by Gardai who claimed the venue would become a magnet for hundreds of drunken festive party-goers from counties Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo.
Garda Superintendent Colin Nevin said if the license was granted, his officers would come under severe pressure with the arrival of ‘boy racers’ into the town as well as people urinating on the streets.
But now Judge Aylmer has granted TWO more licenses for clubs to open at 12.01 on St. Stephen’s morning.
The clubs are the Tul na Ri Nightclub in Carndonagh and also the Fleets Inn in Downings.
Both had previously been turned down for exemptions by Judge Paul Kelly in the District Court in line with Garda objections.
The licenses were granted at Letterkenny Circuit Court on Wednesday by Judge John Aylmer.
On their Facebook page, the Tul na Ri nightclub could not contain their delight at getting their Christmas Night opening hours once again.
It announced “The biggest night of the year is back. We will be open this Christmas night, Monday 25th. Doors open at 12.01am.
“Early admission is strongly advised to guarantee entry.”
