Breaking News: Number of people injured after serious road smash

A number of people have been injured following a major road crash in West Donegal this afternoon.

The accident happened just before 3pm at the Gweebarra bends between Glenties and Dungloe.

Ambulances, members of the fire service and Gardai are now at the scene.

There are reported to be a number of casualties but their condition is not yet known.

The road has now been closed off to allow for the emergency services to assess the scene and to tend to the injured.

We will bring you more on this story as we get it.

Updated at 4pm: Those injured in the crash are believed to be tourists.

It is understood their car flipped onto its roof.

The three people have been taken to Letterkenny University Hospital but their injuries are not understood to be life-threatening.

The roads remains closed at this time.
