Three Donegal athletes have been selected as part of the Northern Ireland team for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Finn Valley AC athletes Sommer Lecky and Dempsey McGuigan have been named as has Raphoe badminton player Rachael Darragh.

The Commonwealth Games take place at Gold Coast, Australia from April 4-15.

High jumper Lecky was a gold medallist at the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games. The Castlederg teen, who won the Irish senior title early last year, leapt to 1.82 metres to scoop gold in the Bahamas.

Hammer thrower McGuigan was sixth in the European Team Championships in Finland last June. His personal best for the event is 70.55m, a Donegal senior record.

Darragh, a niece of three-time Olympic badminton player Chloe Magee, will go in a three-person badminton team with Ciaran Chambers and Sinead Chambers.

Darragh reached the quarter-finals of the ladies singles competition in Latvia, Slovakia and Lithuania in 2017 and she was a semi-finalist in the Welsh International.
