Letterkenny boxer McMonagle also on NI Commonwealth team

The Donegal participants at the 2018 Commonwealth Games will be four with confirmation that Letterkenny native Stephen McMonagle is included on the Northern Ireland boxing team.

A 13-person boxing panel has been announced alongside the rest of the NI selection that will take part in the Gold Coast in April.

Finn Valley athletes Dempsey McGuigan and Sommer Lecky and Raphoe badminton player Rachael Darragh are all included.

And McMonagle will travel as part of the boxing contingent.

McMonagle will represent NI in the super-heavyweight (91+kgs) division in Australia.

Although beaten by Joe Joyce at the recent Ulster Elite Championships, McMonagle – who boxes out of the Holy Trinity ABC in Belfast – gets the nod as Joyce was not eligible to travel.
