Declan Bonner was satisfied with his lot as Donegal got 2018 off to a winning start against Queen’s University.

A 2-15 to 0-6 McKenna Cup win in Ballybofey began Bonner’s tenure in perfect fashion on a crisp night at Sean MacCumhaill Park.

First-half goals by Michael Langan and Nathan Mullins gave Donegal a comfortable lead and they whistled to the win in the second half.

“It was a good work out,” Bonner said.

“The lads applied themselves well, it’s a start and there were plenty of positives. It’s a learning curve for a lot of them. It’s a small step.”
