Are you a stay-at-home parent interested in studying while the children attend school? Are you currently unemployed keen to get into education, or a retiree looking to up-skill or refresh your skillset? Have you been out of the education system for a while and interested in beginning third level study? Then why not consider the ‘Certificate in Preparatory Studies’ at the School of Tourism Killybegs this January, 2018.

This programme is geared towards adult learners interested in beginning third level study. Learners on this programme will have an opportunity to study Information Technology, Communications and Learning Skills, and Maths. Learners can choose from elective subjects including an Introduction to Computing, Introduction to Business Fundamentals, Tourism Studies or Food and Beverage Operations.

The programme runs 3 days per week, Tuesday to Thursday from 10am to 2.45pm, at LYIT’s Killybegs Campus.

The programme commences on Tuesday 16 January and is available free-of-charge with no fees for this course.

The programme has been delivered at LYIT’s Letterkenny campus for over 10 years and has been a tremendous success for hundreds of people.

Janet O’Donoghue, who is featured in the advertisement campaign for this programme, studied the Certificate in Preparatory Studies in 2009. Following completion of her studies, Janet continued her education journey at LYIT School of Tourism and went on to complete a Degree programme. Since graduating, Janet has gone from strength-to-strength, and is working in the region in a role she thoroughly enjoys.

Dr. Seán Duffy, Head of School of Tourism commented, “The Certificate in Preparatory Studies is an excellent addition to the programmes available at the School of Tourism. This programme is suitable for the unemployed, stay-at-home parents, retirees, adults wanting to return to education, in addition to LCA students.”

Seán further added, “This programme will cover a broad range of subjects and is a gateway or access programme into third level study. Learners will have the opportunity to focus on a number of elective subjects, which includes options to study Tourism Studies, Food and Beverage Operations, Business Fundamentals and an Introduction to Computing.

“The School of Tourism has recently expanded the number of programmes available for adult learners and we are delighted to offer a programme that will benefit so many people in South West Donegal. Janet’s success on the programme is a ringing endorsement for what can be achieved when you undertake this programme and we have designed this programme to suit the needs of many people in the region.”

The deadline for receipt of completed applications is the 12 January 2018. For more information visit www.lyit.ie/part-timecourses/part-time/lycfountpt/
