New outdoor gym for Letterkenny Park to be ready by March

A new €40,000 outdoor gym is to be installed at the Bernard McGlinchey Park in Letterkenny.

Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council Cllr Gerry Mc Monagle has welcomed news that the council has been successful in its bid to get funding for the park.

“Following on from my motion that the Donegal County Council look to install an outdoor gym in the Bernard McGlinchey Town Park.

“We applied for funding to provide this project under the Healthy Ireland funds and have been notified that we were successful in the amount of €40,000.00.

“The Council will now move to tender stage and will look to develop a socially inclusive outdoor gym facility that will be open to all members of the community,” he said.

Councillor McMonagle added that this is a fantastic development and one that he has been promoting for a number of years.

He said it would be especially useful for Donegal’s more senior citizens who may not wish to visit ‘normal’ gyms.

“I know plenty of older people go to gyms but a lot of people use the town park and this will simply be an extension of their exercise routine,” he said.

The project is due for completion by March 31st 2018.
