Donegal County Council is to explore the introduction of pay and display parking to alleviate concerns of business people in the Larkin’s Lane area of Letterkenny.

Businesses have noted that people are parking for long periods in the area and is having an adverse affect on trade.

Councillors Jimmy Kavanagh and Ciaran Brogan both brought motions on the issue to the Letterkenny Municipal District’s monthly meeting.

“We have all had this highlighted to us. I visited the area and saw the problems. There is a genuine concern,” Councillor Kavanagh said.

Councillor Brogan noted how there were residential areas in the vicinity and said: “There are vehicles that park there for long periods. We should look at it. I have seen the frustration of business people in the area because customers can’t get parked.”

The Council has confirmed that they are to consider the introduction of a pay and display mechanism.
