A new Social Enterprise Centre in Letterkenny is expected to be completed by March 2020.
The new centre is to be located adjacent to the Public Services Centre and will be serviced by the new Joe Bonnar Road, which will link the Neil T Blaney Road with the Port Road with extensive work anticipated in 2018.
Donegal County Council is currently considering a report from the Health Impact Assessment and a design team will be appointed before the end of January.
“This is vitally important,” Fianna Fáil Councillor Ciara Brogan said.
“It is a huge opportunity for the town. A lot of work has been ongoing. The Joe Bonnar road was part of that and I’m delighted to see the diggers have moved in. We need to be able to tell the public where we are with this project.”
Council Director of Services Liam Ward said that meetings with interested groups, which he said would ‘add to the overall footprint of the building’ had delayed the project.
He added: “It was a very good news story when the allocation of the money was announced. We engaged extensively with groups that are operating. We had an open day and invited them in. We did quite a bit of work with the HSE on ‘Healthy Letterkenny’ in terms of how could we add to the impact of the building on the people it will serve?
“James Kelly is the project lead on it and he advised March 2020 for the completion of the construction.”
